Even in a contest of superlatives, there seems good cause to speculate that the 1990 will be the greatest Churchill Cuvee yet produced, its "younger brother", the Pol Roger Brut 1990, having been acclaimed by many as among the greatest wines in of a great vintage. Though the cuvee is still in early adolescence, the color of the Churchill 1990 in the glass---a brilliant buttery golden tone that is thehallmark of the vintage---is a pointer to the opulence of the fruit within. Behind this self evident richness, however, and a bouquet combining notes of hazelnut, fresh brioche and the fragrance of ripe Pinot Noir, lies a firm and muscular structure with all the concentration, complexity and intensity of flavor to be expected in a Churchill declaration.
