With their dense, clay-based soils, Chassagne's lower lying climats are ideally suited to reds. This wine comes from a parcel of vines planted in the 1960s, a 1.06-hectare plot in the middle of the village. Again, Lamy worked with roughly 50% whole bunches, raised the cuvée in used barrels and did not sulphur the wines at all until bottling. Olivier Lamy's reds are getting more precise and offering more and more finesse. This is a perfect example of this reality and yet again, it is outstanding value.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet La Goujonne is fleshy and perfumed, bursting with aromas of plums, red berries, spices and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, with powdery tannins and a succulent core of fruit, this is quite immediate out of the gates in a lighter, more fragrant register than recent sunny vintages.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Rouge La Goujonne offers open-knit red cherry and mulberry fruit on the nose. The palate is framed by slightly rustic tannins - a chunky Chassagne with a grippy, solid finish. Fine.
